Eddie Johnson is returning to Major League Soccer. The American forward signed with MLS and was selected by Montreal on Friday with the top pick in the league's allocation process. Brian Ching is staying with the Houston Dynamo. The 33-year-old forward, who threatened to retire when he was taken by Montreal in November's expansion draft, was traded back to Houston by the Impact on Thursday for a conditional first-round pick in the 2013 SuperDraft. The Portland Timbers have signed midfielder Franck Songo'o of Cameroon. Songo'o, who played for Cameroon in the Beijing Olympics, played last season for Spanish side Albacete. The 24-year-old has played in the top Spanish league as well as in the English Premier League, starting his professional career in 2005 with Portsmouth FC.

Philadelphia native Chris Albright has signed with the Union. The team said Monday it had added the three-time All-Star defender, who went to Penn Charter High School. D.C. United have signed midfielder Marcelo Saragosa, who returns to MLS after two seasons in Azerbaijan. The 30-year-old Brazilian will be playing for his fourth MLS club. He played in 116 games with the Los Angeles Galaxy, FC Dallas and Chivas USA from 2004-10. Saragosa left MLS following the 2010 season to play in the Azerbaijan first division, first with FC Absheron and then with Ravan Baku.

The San Jose Earthquakes have signed well-traveled Colombian midfielder Tressor Moreno to a contract pending him acquiring his visa. The team announced the move Thursday. The 33-year-old Moreno has appeared in matches for teams in Colombia, France, Chile, Mexico and Peru, while also making a number of appearances for the Colombian national team.

Edson Buddle is returning to the Los Angeles Galaxy after a year in the German second division. The 30-year-old forward signed with the Major League Soccer team Wednesday, a day after his contract was terminated by Ingolstadt. A member of the 2010 World Cup team, Buddle joins the MLS champions whose star-filled roster includes David Beckham, Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan.
